  • 8 slicesBread
  • 4 tspGreen chilli sauce
  •  Oil
  •  Salt

Preparation

  1. Mix besan, cumin seeds, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ajwain, 2 tsp oil and add water to make a runny mixture
  2. Heat oil in a deep frying pan
  3. Make sandwiches from the bread with a thin layer of green chilli sauce
  4. Cut in half to make triangles or cut in quarter triangles for a cocktail version
  5. Dip in batter and deep fry, turning over so both sides are light brown

This was one of the common street food in Varanasi. I haven't seen it, at least as street food, in any other place. The original version just has plain bread without any filling. I have used a bottled chilli sauce to make it a bit more interesting. People make this with a wide variety of fillings. I made this when I was visited by an old friend from Varanasi.
