Ingredients
- 200 gmsChick pea flour (besan)
- ½ tspCumin seeds
- ½ tspChilli powder
- ¼ tspTurmeric powder
- ¼ tspAjwain
- 8 slicesBread
- 4 tspGreen chilli sauce
- Oil
- Salt
Preparation
- Mix besan, cumin seeds, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ajwain, 2 tsp oil and add water to make a runny mixture
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan
- Make sandwiches from the bread with a thin layer of green chilli sauce
- Cut in half to make triangles or cut in quarter triangles for a cocktail version
- Dip in batter and deep fry, turning over so both sides are light brown
This was one of the common street food in Varanasi. I haven't seen it, at least as street food, in any other place. The original version just has plain bread without any filling. I have used a bottled chilli sauce to make it a bit more interesting. People make this with a wide variety of fillings. I made this when I was visited by an old friend from Varanasi.
