Fish Cafreal

Ingredients

  • 500 gmsFish fillets
  • 1 bunchCoriander
  • 1 tbspGinger
  • 2 tbspGarlic
  • 4Green chillies
  • 1 tspCumin
  • 4Cloves
  • 1 pieceCinnamon
  • ½ tspPepper
  • 2 tbspJaggery
  • ¼ cupMalt vinegar
  • ½ tspTurmeric
  • 1 tspChilli powder
  •  Oil
  •  Salt

Preparation

  1. Grind all ingredients except the fish with some salt
  2. Cut fish fillets into bite-sized pieces and marinate in the ground paste for at least an hour
  3. Heat oil and fry fish pieces on all sides, reserving the marinade
  4. Remove fish and simmer the reserved marinade with 1 cup of water
  5. Add fish back and simmer for a few minutes

Cafreal is usually made with chicken drumsticks and eaten as a snack rather than a main. Fish is another alternative. That is what I have used though it is usually made using cutlets. Adding the thick sauce left after simmering the marinade makes it a complete dish.
