- 1 bunchCoriander
- 1 tbspGinger
- 2 tbspGarlic
- 4Green chillies
- 1 tspCumin
- 4Cloves
- 1 pieceCinnamon
- ½ tspPepper
- 2 tbspJaggery
- ¼ cupMalt vinegar
- ½ tspTurmeric
- 1 tspChilli powder
- Oil
- Salt
Preparation
- Grind all ingredients except the fish with some salt
- Cut fish fillets into bite-sized pieces and marinate in the ground paste for at least an hour
- Heat oil and fry fish pieces on all sides, reserving the marinade
- Remove fish and simmer the reserved marinade with 1 cup of water
- Add fish back and simmer for a few minutes
Cafreal is usually made with chicken drumsticks and eaten as a snack rather than a main. Fish is another alternative. That is what I have used though it is usually made using cutlets. Adding the thick sauce left after simmering the marinade makes it a complete dish.
