A South Indian beef and rice dish

Ingredients
- 1 kgBeef, diced
- 2 tspChilli powder
- 1 tspTurmeric powder
- 1 tspGaram masala
- 1 tspSalt
- ½ cupYoghurt
- ½ cupGrated coconut
- 2 tspFennel seeds
- ½ cupCashews
- 6Green chillies
- 500 gmsOnion, sliced
- 2 tbspGinger, minced
- 2 tbspGarlic, minced
- 400 gmsTomatoes, diced
- 4 tbspGhee
- 2Bay leaves
- 12Curry leaves
- 6Cloves
- 4Cardamom
- 1 pieceCinnamon
- 1Star anise
- 2 cupsRice
- 2 sheetspuff pastry
Preparation
- Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, yoghurt to the diced beef and mix
- Slow cook in the oven at 120°C for 2 hours
- Toast grated coconut, fennel seeds, cashews
- Grind fine along with green chillies
- Fry sliced onions in oil until transparent
- Add minced ginger and garlic and fry
- Add diced tomatoes and ground mixture and fry till tomatoes are cooked
- Add cooked meat and adjust salt and water
- Heat ghee in a large pot and add bay leaves amd curry leaves
- Reduce heat, powder cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and star anise and add
- Wash rice and add and stir till it is coated
- Add 4 cups of water and cook
- Layer rice and beef in a pot and cover with puff pastry
- Place in oven at 180°C for 20 to 30 minutes
