Chicken Kolhapuri

Chicken Kolhapuri

Ingredients

  • 1 kgChicken pieces with bone

  • 2 tspGinger, minced
  • 2 tspGarlic, minced
  • 2 tspChilli powder
  • ½ tspTurmeric
  • ½ cupYoghurt
  • 1 tbspLemon juice

  • 2 tspCumin seeds
  • 1 tbspCoriander seeds
  • ½ tspPeppercorns
  • 1 tbspPoppy seeds
  • 4Cloves
  • 2Green cardamom
  • 2 cmsCinnamon
  • 10Kashmiri chillies
  • 5Dry red chillies

  • 1 tbspGarlic, sliced
  • 200 gmsOnions, sliced
  • 2 tbspGrated coconut
  • 200 gmsTomatoes, chopped
  •  Oil
  •  Salt

Preparation

  1. Marinate chicken in turmeric, chilli powder, ginger, garlic, lemon juice
  2. Add yoghurt and some salt and mix and marinate for one hour
  3. Toast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, peppercorns, poppy seeds, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, kashmiri and dry chillies till fragrant
  4. Add sliced garlic, onions and grated coconut and toast till onions are soft
  5. Grind fine with the tomatoes
  6. Heat oil and fry ground paste till oil separates
  7. Add marianted chicken and stir
  8. Add 2 cups of water, bring to boil and simmer till chicken is cooked
