Tomato Gosht

A tomato based lamb dish

Tomato Gosht

Ingredients

  • 1 kgLamb Shanks

  • 2 kgTomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tspShahjeera
  • 2Bay leaves
  • 6Cloves
  • 1 pieceCinnamon
  • 1 tspPeppercorns
  • 400 gmsOnion, chopped
  • 4 tbspGarlic, minced
  • 4 tbspGinger, minced
  • 1 tbspCoriander powder
  • 1 tbspChilli powder
  • 1 tspTurmeric
  • 1 tspGaram masala
  •  Chopped coriander leaves
  •  Oil
  •  Salt

Preparation

  1. Heat oil
  2. Add shahjeera and bay leaves
  3. Add cloves, cinnamon, black pepper and fry till they pop
  4. Add chopped onion and fry till soft
  5. Add minced garlic and ginger and fry for a while
  6. Add lamb shanks and fry till the colour changes a little
  7. Add coriander powder, chilli powder and turmeric and fry
  8. Add chopped tomatoes with the juice and simmer till lamb is cooked
  9. Add salt and garam masala
  10. Garnish with fresh chopped coriander leaves
